https://www.tobinscience.com/webquest-hs-motion.htmlHow it works
Your teacher gives you the webquest sheet (paper or digital). Every answer goes on it.
Each stop opens in a new tab. Use the sliders and buttons on that page — your answers come from what you see.
Close the tab, tick Done, and open the next stop. Finished early with a partner? Play the bonus.
Stops
Forces & Motion Unit Intro
Read the hammer and the feather, pick a big question, play two activities.
Simple Science Videos: Forces & Motion
Watch three one-minute videos and fill in the blanks.
Vocabulary
Flip the Word Wall cards and define 14 words in your own words.
Forces & Motion Parts 1–2: Describing Motion and Motion Graphs
Ride the bus, drive the delivery robot, read two graphs segment by segment.
Forces & Motion Parts 3–4: Acceleration and Free Fall
Drive the dot trail, run the acceleration calculator, drop things on Earth and the Moon.
Forces & Motion Parts 5–6: Newton's First and Second Laws
Push a box, flick a card, slide a puck, run the force lab, read two investigations.
Forces & Motion Part 7: Third Law, Free Body Diagrams + Lab Bench
Pick action-reaction pairs, push two skaters apart, build free body diagrams, then push crates and drop balls on the Lab Bench.
Wrap-up: Solve the hammer and the feather
Go back to the hammer and the feather at the top of the unit intro and explain, with what you learned, why they landed together on the Moon and why the feather would lose in your classroom.
Bonus: 1v1 HS Forces & Motion
- Only when you and a partner have both finished every stop.
- One computer, two players: Red uses the W A S D keys and Blue uses the arrow keys. It needs a keyboard, so it will not work on a phone.
- Press Enter the Arena, pick a game, and play to 3 wins.
For teachers

Students move through six free tobinscience.com resources in order: the Forces & Motion unit intro, three one-minute Simple Science videos, the unit vocabulary, Parts 1–7 of the Forces and Motion section (reference-point bus, delivery robot, speed calculator, graph story machine, Graph A and Graph B segment readers, dot-trail acceleration, acceleration calculator, drop tower with Earth, the Moon, air and no air, mass-vs-weight data lab, forces on a box, the card-and-coin trick, a puck on four surfaces, the F = ma force lab and calculator, three investigations, action-reaction pairs, two skaters and a free body diagram builder), the Lab Bench Push It! and Gravity Drop labs, and a 1v1 review game for early finishers. Every answer comes from what the page shows, matching SPS8a–c. SPS8.d (simple machines) has its own page and its own webquest.
Time: about 80–85 minutes (two 45-minute periods, or one block)
What students need
- One Chromebook or computer per student (the 1v1 bonus needs a keyboard and two students on one computer)
- Headphones are optional (the three videos are about one minute each)
- No student accounts or sign-ins; nothing to install
Every stop at a glance

Good to know
- The Drop Test and Force Lab rounds, the endless-practice scores, the Lab Bench mystery crate and mystery planet are randomized, so those answers vary. The simulation readouts (bus speeds, robot trips, graph segments, dot-trail speeds, drop-tower times, data-lab weights, the box, the puck, the force lab, the skaters, the free body diagrams) are fixed, so those match the key.
- Stop 1 activities award newtons that are saved only on that device; students write their score on the sheet.
- The three videos are shared with 8th grade and show S8P3 / S8P5 badges; the ideas are the ones SPS8 asks for. Only the gravity part of Fields is SPS8.c. Simple Machines, in the same group, belongs to the Simple Machines webquest.
- The Unit Lab uses g = 9.8 m/s²; the Lab Bench Gravity Drop rounds it to 10 m/s² (a 20 m drop reads 2.00 s there, 2.02 s in the drop tower). The sheet says so.
- The 1v1 bonus is for pairs who have both finished. It is head-to-head review of the whole forces and motion unit.
- The page also has endless practice (8 skills), 13 worked examples, 16 real-life cards, 18 myths, a 10-question practice bank and a which-law sort the webquest does not visit. They make a good warm-up the next day.
- Short on time? Stops 1–3 make a good first day and Stops 4–7 a second day.
- The printable student webquest and its answer key come with the Word / PDF webquest download. This page holds no answers, so it is safe to post.
