Review Quest — Technical Requirements
Last updated: September 13, 2026
Review Quest runs entirely in the web browser. There is nothing to install, no app store, no plugins, no student accounts, and no student data is stored on our servers. It is built and tested on standard school Chromebooks and laptops.
Student devices
- Chromebooks (including low-cost models) and Windows or Mac laptops are the supported devices.
- Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox. No extensions or plugins.
- Each unit is a single lightweight page (under 200 KB), so it loads quickly on shared school Wi-Fi.
- The optional two-player 1v1 arena games have both players share one keyboard, so they are computer-only. The study portion of a unit (scouting mission, zones, flashcards, checkpoints) also runs in a tablet or phone browser, but we recommend Chromebooks and laptops for class use.
- No microphone, camera, or location access is ever requested.
Network and content filter
Students must be able to reach these two addresses. Both serve the same site.
| Address | Used for |
www.tobinscience.com | Class links, every unit, the teacher dashboard |
quest.tobinscience.com | Same site under its second name (some class links use it) |
Some units also link out to free simulations and reference pages. These are optional: if a filter blocks them, the rest of the unit still works.
| Address | Used for |
phet.colorado.edu | PhET Interactive Simulations (University of Colorado Boulder) |
musiclab.chromeexperiments.com | Chrome Music Lab sound-wave demo (Waves unit) |
tobin-science.github.io | A linked physical science reference page |
Accounts and logins
- Students: none, ever. They open the teacher's class link, type a first and last name so their teacher can recognize their work, and start.
- Teachers: one private dashboard link, delivered by email at purchase. There is no password. The link is the login, so teachers should bookmark it and not share it. A lost link can be re-sent to the purchase email at any time.
How student progress is saved
- Progress saves automatically in the student's own browser on that device (browser local storage). Nothing is uploaded.
- Students should use the same device and browser for a unit and avoid clearing site data mid-unit.
- To move between devices (for example, school Chromebook to home computer), students copy the blue save code shown in the game and paste it on the other device.
- On managed Chromebooks that wipe local data at sign-out, students should use the save code at the end of each session.
- When a student finishes, the game gives them a reward code to send their teacher. Reward codes carry the results; the teacher decodes them in the dashboard's Insight panel, entirely inside the teacher's browser.
Learning management systems
A class link is an ordinary web link. Post it in Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, Microsoft Teams, or anywhere students look. One link per unit covers all class periods, all year. No LTI integration or rostering is required.
Email delivery
Teachers receive their dashboard link and receipts by email. If a district mail filter is strict, ask IT to allow mail from tobinscience.com and from Stripe (stripe.com), which sends the receipt.
Data and privacy
Review Quest stores no student information on our servers. The only stored data is the teacher's email address, purchased units, and the display settings the teacher types in. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see card numbers. Full details: Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
Support
Email sciencehubchalkbox@gmail.com. Tobin Science is run by a practicing 8th grade science teacher, so replies are quick and practical. The Teacher Guide (PDF) covers setup, saving, and the Insight panel.
